Mentoring Makes a Difference at Saint Francis

11/05/2009

A survey conducted at Saint Francis Medical Center, Grand Island, NE, showed that a good mentor can make a major difference in employee development and retention, according to an assistant professor at the University of Nebraska-Kearney. Michelle Fleig-Palmer, PhD, said more than a third of the employees surveyed at Saint Francis said they have a mentor. The survey found that employees who have mentors are likely to learn more; to be more committed to Saint Francis; and are five times more likely to intend to continue working there. Also, most of the employees with mentors said their supervisors were their mentors. For more information, contact Terry Douglass, tdouglass@sfmc-gi.org.
