Mercy-Des Moines to Participate in Medicare Shared Savings Program

Mercy Medical Center, Des Moines, IA, announced that its Mercy ACO was selected to participate in the Medicare Shared Savings Program Accountable Care Organization, a new program sponsored by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Through the Shared Savings Program, effective July 1, Mercy ACO works with CMS to provide Medicare beneficiaries with high-quality service and care while reducing growth in Medicare expenditures through enhanced care coordination. Mercy health coaches work with Medicare beneficiaries who have chronic conditions, such as diabetes or congestive heart failure, to provide care coordination between scheduled medical visits. For patients who are well, wellness information and activities, such as screenings and immunizations, help prevent or detect illness before it becomes serious.
