CHI approved the FY2013 capital budget for St. Joseph’s Hospital, Dickinson, ND, which includes approval to build a new community hospital and medical office building. CHI and St. Joseph’s Hospital and Health Center purchased approximately 40 acres of land 18 months ago with the long-term goal of building a replacement hospital on the site, but the plan included a possible 10-year wait for capital funding. Given the Dickinson area’s population growth (approximately 18% and still growing as a result of the oil boom in North Dakota), increased use of hospital services, continued community support for a new hospital and significant need for a new facility, CHI was able to accelerate the plan.
